Settle Station Signal Box

Settle Station, Station Road, Settle, BD24 9AA

About this place

Settle Station Signal Box is a small railway heritage museum beside the southbound platform at Settle station. Built in 1891, the former signal box was taken out of railway service in 1984 and later moved and restored. Its original 20-lever frame helps volunteers demonstrate how mechanical signalling worked; this is a heritage display rather than a box controlling today's trains.

The Friends of the Settle-Carlisle Line advertise free admission on most Saturdays, 10am to 4pm, with donations welcomed. Opening depends on volunteers and train services, with exceptions around Christmas and New Year. Confirm your chosen date with the Friends, especially for a group or special visit.

Entry involves a steep, narrow external staircase, and the operator states that the signal box has no wheelchair access. Ask about access needs before travelling.
