The Ribble valley links Settle with the countryside around Stainforth. Stainforth Force is a waterfall on the River Ribble near the village, with a historic packhorse bridge and riverside paths nearby. Salmon may be seen at the falls in autumn, though sightings depend on timing and river conditions.
Settle's visitor-information walking page describes the riverside outing towards Stainforth. Choose and check a mapped route before setting out, including the return journey. The National Park's longer Horton-to-Settle walk is another option in this area, but it also uses higher ground and is a separate route. Allow for gates, stiles and changing surfaces; plan any train or bus connection using the current timetable.
