Delete your account
You can permanently delete your Pocket Guides account and all the personal data we hold about you. There are two ways to request deletion. Both result in the same outcome and run the same cleanup process.
Method 1 — From inside the app (fastest)
This is the quickest way. The whole deletion process finishes in a few minutes and you don't need to wait for us.
- Open the Pocket Guides app on your phone.
- Tap the Saved tab in the bottom navigation.
- Sign in if you aren't already.
- Scroll down to the Account section.
- Tap Delete account.
- Re-confirm your identity when prompted (the app will ask you to enter your password, or re-authorise with Apple or Google depending on how you signed in).
- Confirm the deletion.
The app will show a confirmation when the cleanup is complete. You will be signed out automatically.
Method 2 — By email
If you no longer have access to the app, or you'd rather not delete it yourself, send us an email and we'll do it for you.
Email hello@pocket-guide.co.uk from the email address registered to your Pocket Guides account, with the subject line "Account deletion request". You don't need to include any other information — we'll use the sender address to find your account.
We will action the request within 30 days, and usually within a few working days. We'll reply to confirm once it's done.
What gets deleted
Whichever method you use, the same deletion process runs. The full description is in our Privacy Policy section 8, but in summary:
- Your account record (email, display name, saved lists, account ID) is deleted from our database.
- Your Firebase Authentication record is deleted, so you can no longer sign in with that email or social account.
- Push tokens for every device linked to your account are deleted.
- Your name, email, account ID and any other identifying information is removed from every listing submission, ownership claim and event submission you made. The underlying content (the listing or event itself) remains in the app if it has been published, but no longer references you.
- Your account ID is replaced with a null value on every anonymised engagement record we hold (page views, taps, saves) so the counts continue to work but cannot be linked back to you.
- Listings you owned become unclaimed. They remain in the app as ordinary listings.
- Any pending-moderation photos you uploaded that were never published are deleted.
Published photos that are already part of a live listing or event remain part of that listing or event. We do not keep backups of deleted accounts.
What is NOT deleted
For completeness, a handful of things are retained — either because they're no longer linked to you, or because we're legally required to keep them:
- Anonymised engagement counts. Once your account ID has been removed (see above), the records are no longer personal data — they're just numbers.
- Published listings, events and photos already in the app. Your identifying information is scrubbed from them, but the content itself stays public unless removed separately.
- Stripe billing records, if you ever paid for a business feature. Stripe retains these for as long as required by UK accounting and tax law (typically 6 years).
If you'd like a specific published listing or event removed too, mention it in your email and we'll handle that as a separate request.
If you change your mind
Account deletion is irreversible. We do not keep backups of deleted accounts, so there is no way to restore your saved list, ownership claims or submission history once the process has run. You can of course create a new account afterwards using the same email address, but it will start from scratch.
