About this place
Attermire Scar is a landscape of limestone cliffs, grassy slopes and caves above Settle. It is an area to explore on foot rather than a single summit attraction. Victoria Cave is one of its most important features: excavations have revealed evidence of animals from different periods of the area's past.
The National Park describes a walking approach from Settle using the Pennine Bridleway and Gorbeck Road, with paths beneath the scars and a return towards town on the Dales High Way. Use the published information and a current map to choose a route suited to your experience, daylight and the weather.
Expect uphill countryside walking and uneven ground. Stay on permitted paths, keep clear of cliff edges and observe any barriers or access restrictions around cave entrances. A visit to the landscape does not include a guided cave tour or permission to enter closed areas.
