About this place
Castleberg Crag is the limestone outcrop rising above the centre of Settle. A zigzag footpath climbs to a viewpoint over the town, making the crag a place to pause and see the streets and surrounding landscape from above.
Settle Town Council manages the crag and woodland. Its interpretation project covers the site's geology, wildlife, plants, heritage and panorama. Follow the marked walking route and current signs rather than attempting a shortcut up the rock face.
The short distance from town does not make this a level stroll: allow for the climb and uneven ground, wear shoes with grip and keep children away from exposed edges. Check the council's updates and on-site notices for temporary maintenance closures before visiting. No fixed public opening hours have been verified by Pocket Guides.
