Craven Lime Works and the Hoffmann Kiln are industrial heritage remains near Langcliffe, north of Settle. The scheduled monument lies between the Settle-Carlisle railway and Stainforth Scar. Its kilns, quarry remains and former transport routes show how local limestone was processed and moved to market.
The large Hoffmann kiln began producing lime in 1873. Limestone and fuel were loaded into its chambers, with firing moving around the circuit so different sections could be loaded, burnt and emptied in turn. The site also contains remains of other kiln designs, allowing visitors to compare different approaches to lime production.
The National Park describes a trail around the historic works. Follow current signs and permitted paths when visiting, and check local access and parking arrangements before travelling. This is a site of historic industrial structures: wear suitable footwear, supervise children and leave barriers, machinery remains and wildlife undisturbed. A monument listing does not grant access to every structure or adjoining property.
