Settle Hydro

Bridge End Mill, Settle, BD24 9JS

About this place

Settle Hydro is a community-owned hydroelectric scheme at the former Bridge End Mill site on the River Ribble. Built in 2009, it began generating electricity in 2010. River water passes along the old mill's head race and through an Archimedes screw turbine before returning to the river. The electricity supplies apartments in the former mill building, with surplus power exported to the National Grid.

This is an operating electricity installation. Its website explains the turbine, mill setting, weir and fish pass, making it useful for understanding how the river's flow is used locally. Contact Settle Hydro directly if you want an organised visit or information about access; published technical information does not establish visitor opening hours or unrestricted entry to the equipment.
