About this place
Stainforth Force is a waterfall on the River Ribble close to Stainforth, north of Settle. The river drops over limestone ledges near the village's old packhorse bridge. In autumn, visitors may see salmon attempting to travel upstream; sightings depend on river conditions and are not guaranteed.
The National Park describes a walking approach from its Stainforth car park, using the signed route and field paths near the bridge. Check the current car-park arrangements and use a map if extending the visit along the Ribble or towards Langcliffe.
Keep well back from the water and slippery rock edges, particularly after heavy rain. Supervise children and leave room for other path users. This listing is for viewing the falls; it does not establish that entering the river is safe. Take litter away and follow current countryside and livestock signs.
